Alkali Scientific Moeller Decarboxylase Broth w/Lysine 5mL Tube, 10/Pk
Moeller Decarboxylase Broth with Lysine is a differential biochemical medium used to determine whether microorganisms produce the enzyme lysine decarboxylase. It is commonly applied in the identification of Gram negative enteric bacilli, including members of the Salmonella, Citrobacter, and related groups. Each tube contains peptones, glucose, the amino acid lysine, and pH indicators such as bromocresol purple and cresol red. After inoculation, bacteria initially ferment the small amount of glucose present, producing acid that changes the medium from purple to yellow. If the organism possesses lysine decarboxylase, the enzyme converts lysine to cadaverine, an alkaline compound that raises the pH and returns the medium to purple. If the enzyme is absent, the medium remains yellow, indicating a negative reaction.

Alkali Scientific Agar, Simmons Citrate, 500 Grams
Simmons Citrate Agar is a differential medium used to assess the ability of microorganisms to utilize citrate as their sole carbon source. The 500g package is ideal for medium-scale microbiological testing and biochemical analysis. The medium contains sodium citrate as the only carbon source and ammonium phosphate as the sole nitrogen source. Microorganisms capable of metabolizing citrate produce alkaline byproducts that increase the pH of the medium, causing the pH indicator bromothymol blue to change from green to blue. This color change indicates a positive citrate utilization reaction. Simmons Citrate Agar is commonly used in the IMViC test series to differentiate Enterobacteriaceae species.

LB Agar (Lennox) with Ampicillin is a convenient pre mixed selective medium widely used in molecular biology for isolating plasmid transformed Escherichia coli. Each plate contains 20 mL of Lennox formulation Lysogeny Broth agar (5 g/L NaCl) supplemented with 100 µg/mL Ampicillin. This ready to use format eliminates the time consuming and temperature sensitive process of adding antibiotics to molten agar. The 100 µg/mL concentration is the standard for maintaining high copy number plasmids carrying the bla gene (beta lactamase). Ampicillin inhibits cell wall synthesis, preventing the growth of non resistant cells, while transformed bacteria degrade the antibiotic and form colonies. The Lennox low salt formulation is beneficial for salt sensitive downstream applications and routine cloning workflows.
